This Mid Century Modern gem, designed by distinguished Architect Reginald H. Roberts, AIA, is a time capsule for design in the 1950’s & 60’s. The home was originally designed for Mr. & Mrs. McClananhan and their three children and was featured in the San Antonio Light, April 10, 1960.

This unique, period home is designed around a central courtyard terrace, with connections on three sides through expansive, oversized walls of glass; integrating indoor and outdoor spaces. The home features passive solar strategies with deep overhanging eaves, brick and wood slatted solar screens, operable windows and is sited to take advantage of it’s North / South exposure at the crest of tree-lined Hillview Drive. Other design features include exposed wood beams, brick walls, floors and raised planters, pivoting boat port, outdoor work area and sink, and enclosed workshop and storage area. Along with this meticulously maintained home, the original photographs, news articles, house plans and specifications were preserved.

In March, 2015 an extensive renovation, remodel and master bath addition was completed by owner/architectural designer with the resolve to be sensitive to the original design, restoring many of the unique features, materials and fixtures as possible, while updating the home for modern living and comfort.

The ~168 square foot addition of the new master bath, with curbless glass enclosed concentric shower, freestanding tub, walnut cabinets, linen storage, and double vanity sink made room for a large, functional walk in closet.

The updated kitchen includes walnut cabinets, quarts countertops, large stainless steel basin sink and faucet, Miele ovens, cooktop and range hood, 38 cu ft. professional built-in refrigerator and freezer.

The second bath was completely remodeled to match the high standard of materials and craftmanship used in the addition and kitchen.

Also featured in the home is a completely new electrical system, 5 ton 16 seer AC, metal roof, gutters, cedar fence, outdoor trellis and living space, laundry room, polished concrete, freestanding fireplace, landscaping & hardscaping, paint, smart home lights, thermostat and sprinkler system, wide plank white oak flooring in bedrooms 2,3 and 4, and closed-cell blown insulation in the master suite exposed ceiling and entire bath addition.
